CAUSES
Chlamydia is caused by Chlamydia Trachomatis, a microscopic organism that has the characteristics of both a virus and a bacterium. The disease is spread by vaginal or anal sex, and if you touch your eyes with contaminated hand, you may also develop conjunctivitis.
DIAGNOSTIC AND TEST PROCEDURES
If you suspect you have Chlamydia, your doctor may want to test your cervical fluid or penile discharge with a special culture medium, examining the fluids microscopically with a substance that makes bacteria glow. The doctor may draw blood to check for antibodies to the disease.
TREATMENT
In uncomplicated cases of chlamydia, the cure rate is 95 percent. However, because most women don’t know they have the disease until it has caused serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, sexually active women should be tested for Chlamydia once a year.
CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE
If you are diagnosed with chlamydia, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics, such as Tetracycline, Doxycycline, Erythromycin, or Sulfa based drugs such as Sulfamethoxazole. If you have pelvic inflammatory disease, you’ll need stronger doses of Doxycycline, Cefoxitin, or Penicillin derivatives.
